It was built in 1958 during the "Great Leap Forward" period and got its name because the railway connects Bajiaogou and Shixi Town. It is used to transport coal and other production materials in Jiayang Coal Mine, and also serves as a shuttle bus for local residents to get in and out of mountain areas. The narrow gauge railway runs through mountains with a total length of 19.84km and a gauge of 762mm, which is called "inch gauge". The railway has 6 tunnels, 108 arcs, a minimum turning radius of 70 meters, a maximum gradient of 36 ‰, and a climb height difference of 238 meters. In 2019, it was named as the National Industrial Heritage.
